The Solenoid

Solenoid is just a fancy name for a coil of wire. If we run current through the wire, the coil becomes an electromagnet.   Essentially there are three things that influence the magnetic strength of the solenoid:

• The amount of current in the wire.
• The number of "turns" of wire.
• The magnetic "permeability" of the core.
