FLASHCARDS
Made by the
students, for the students!
Materials
needed: 4 X 6 index cards with different
multiplication and division problems, scrap paper, pencil
Time:
This activity will need to be spread out over 3 days. One day
for making the flashcards, one day for correcting the flashcards and
the other day for the race. However, you can revise it so that
there are less or more flashcards being developed per student which
could change the number of days. Also, the developing of the
flashcards and the correcting of the flashcards could be done as
homework to eliminate a day or two.
 |
You
need to write multiplication and division problems on the
index cards...one problem per card. (Try not to repeat
problems.) |
 |
Give
each student 3 multiplication cards and 3 division cards. |
 |
The
students are to work out each problem on scrap paper. |
 |
When
the students think they have the right answer, they are to
write the work and solution on the back of the index card IN
PENCIL. |
 |
They
hand in the index cards to you to correct for a grade.
(Make sure you have the answers already worked out...it will
be a lot easier to grade when you have all the cards to
correct!) |
 |
When
they get them back they are to correct any mistakes they have
and then hand them back in to be re-corrected. |
 |
Once
all the cards are correct, the students are to then trade
cards with another student. |
 |
Now,
having all the students start together they are to do the 6
problems and check their answers. The one who gets all 6
right first wins! (The honor system comes into play
here.) |
 |
This
can be repeated until everyone has seen all the flashcards.
