Teacher Hints for Irrational Approximations

 

Emphasize that irrationals become approximations when changed to decimal form.

 

Refer to = 1.73 as "rounded to" rather than exactly "equal to".

 

The only irrationals in Math A are "square roots of non-perfect squares" and .

 

Remember to instruct students to use the calculator's full value of a number until all computations are complete.  Round only the final answer.  Don't round too soon!!!

 

Emphasize that is an irrational number.  It is NOT 3.14
