When working with Complex Fractions, there are several ways to help students reinforce their skills and challenge their sense of adventure at the same time.

Ask students to become detectives and find
What's Wrong with this Complex Fraction Problem?

1.  Prepare a complete solution to simplifying a complex fraction problem (show all work) where "cardinal" errors have been made.  Prepare at least four problems set up in this fashion and have at least one solution be correct.  (If you cannot come up with problems on your own, collect problems from tests and quizzes that your students have solved incorrectly.)

2.  Students may be asked to work alone or in groups.  This exercise could even be offered as a quiz.

3.  Inform the students that at least one of the solutions is correct.

4.  The task is to circle the error where the answer first "goes wrong" in each problem and write a short sentence describing what "should have been done".

5.  Students could also be asked to supply the correct answer.
