Directions: Develop a scenario surrounding your pictures. Movie producers are developing a film based on the adventures of three dog friends. They have narrowed their choices down to the six canines shown above. How many different groups of 3 dogs can be chosen to play the three dog friends in the film from the six dogs shown above? Order does not matter in this scenario. Students must find the number of combinations of 6 items taken 3 at a time. If necessary, suggest that the students name or number the dogs and make a list of their arrangements. This activity is a
good warm-up to the discussion of combinations and the subsequent use of
the formula for combinations.
