Remember:  Theoretical probability is the ratio of the number of ways the event can occur to the total number of possibilities in the sample space.
 


  Answer the following questions using your knowledge of the theoretical probability
associated with each situation.

1.
        A dime is tossed.   It is a fair, unbiased coin. 

a.  What is the sample space?

b.  What is the probability that a head will appear?

2. A die is tossed.   It is a fair, unbiased die.   List the outcomes for each event below and the probability of the event.

3. A standard deck of 52 cards is shuffled and one card is drawn.  What is the probability that the card is:

4. A class contains 18 boys and 12 girls.  The teacher calls on students at random to recite.  What is the probability that the first student called upon to recite is:

a.  a boy?

b.  a girl?

 

 

5. A letter is chosen at random from a given word.  Find the probability that the letter is a vowel if the word is:
