 7. After Mary lost 20% of her investment, she had \$2000 left.  How much did she invest originally? Answer \$2500 Explanation The \$2000 left is 80% of the original. Let m = original investment .80 m = 2000 m = 2500

 8. Three investors own a sport shop.  One partner owns 1/3 of the shop, while the second partner owns 1/4.  To the nearest percent, what percent of the shop does the third partner own? Answer 42% Explanation Let x = the third partner 1/3 + 1/4 + x = 1 7/12 + x = 1 x = 5/12 5/12 = 0.4166666667 = 42%

 9. Bonita wants to store 1/2 pound of sugar in 3 separate containers.  What fractional part of a pound of sugar will be each container? Answer 1/6 of a pound Explanation 1/2 divided by 3 = 1/6. 1/6 of a pound will be in each container.
