Handfuls of Fruit Loops/Cheerios

Supplies:
Large box of
Fruit Loops or Cheerios cereal, paper towels.
Students will be grabbing a handful of cereal
from the box. Food server clear plastic
gloves for students to use can be obtained from
the cafeteria.
| 1. Ask students
to grab as much cereal as they can with
one hand. No "scooping" - the
cereal must be "within" the fist. |

2. Place the cereal on a paper
towel and count them. |
3.
Record the class data on the board or on the overhead.
4. Ask
students to complete the worksheet for this activity
which includes investigations of central tendency,
visitors to the room who grab handfuls, the five
statistical summary, and a box and whisker plot.
A
calculator will be needed for this activity. The
preparation of the box and whisker plot can be done with
or without the graphing calculator.
