Coughlin) This site includes extensive background information on the Thomas Nast, the father of political cartoons. There is a nice collection of Nast's work here, with an appropriate focus on the corruption associated with political machines, particularly NYC's Boss Tweed and Tamany Hall. Uniting Mugwumps & the Masses: Puck's Role in Gilded Age Politics (University of VA) A collection of political cartoons that appeared in PUCK magazine (1880-1884). Contains desriptions of the events depicted, explainations of the cartoon's influence in American politics and an archive of all the available cartoons. |
