Magnetic Counters
for the chalkboard

Use magnetic counters to help teach and reinforce signed numbers.

*Hint:  First test to see if your chalkboards (or whiteboards) are magnetic.

bullet Using your word processor, create a series of counters to represent positive and negative integers.  The actual size of each counter is approximately 3" by 3".  Negative counters should be red.
bullet Print your pages of colored counters.
bullet Before cutting out the individual counters, laminate the entire page. This covering will add stability to the printer paper and aid in the longevity of your counters. (8 ½" x 11" laminating sheets can be purchased at business supply stores.)
bullet Cut out the individual counters.
bullet Place magnetic strips on the back of your counters. (Look for "rolls" of magnetic stripping in craft departments.)
 

These counters can be kept near the chalkboard and used to instruct, or quickly reinforce, the concepts of signed numbers.
