Graphing Inequalities
on the TI-82
Topic Index | Algebra Index | Regents Exam Prep Center

If you are still using the TI-82 graphing calculator, you may need a refresher on how to graph inequalities, as it requires several steps.

Instructions for graphing inequalities on the TI-83, TI-83+ and TI-84+ can be found at
Graphing Linear Inequalities

If you have the "older" TI-82, the instructions are below:

Using the TI-82 Graphing Calculator

1.  Solve to isolate the y variable:

            Enter Y1= 2x + 2

2.  Hit DRAW ----2nd PRGM
           Choose #7 Shade (

The parameters for Shade are:
Shade(lowerfunc, upperfunc, resolution,
 xleft, xright)
(resolution ranges from 1 to 9
 where 1 is solid)
     (xleft, xright are optional)

Shade(Y1, 10, 5)

To get the "Y1" to appear, go to Y-Vars, Function, and choose Y1
If using Zstandard, use y =10 as upperfunc OR
y = -10 as lowerfunc

3.  Choose DRAW #1  ClrDraw  between graphs to clear the screen

OR run "DEFAULTS" program (if you have it on your calculator) to clear the screen.
